Five Master Shots with Audio

In the example showing parallelism we provided an example synchronous sound. We played a song popular on TicTok called "How You Feel" and chose the part that switches from one rapper to another. When it is my turn to be on the video one rapper says/asks  "Danny, how you feel?" and when it is Chiara’s turn in the video the other rapper says, "I feel great". This demonstrates the change in scene/character, but in similar situation, which is why we kept the same song. The song just has different rappers singing/talking during the video. This represents synchronous sound because it matches our movements and with the transition well.
In the example showing “symbolism” we provided an example of editing music into the edit. Over the video of the American flag in nations square, we put the star-spangled banner. When we zoomed out from the map of the United States, we just edited the music to sound more intense, and louder with high bass. It is the same music, just altered, which represents the relationship in the two scenes, and the symbolism.
In the example showing contrast we provided an example of non-diegtec sound. For the bird flying, we played the upbeat and suspenseful theme song from Mission Impossible and for Chiara sitting on the ground, we played Simon and Garfunkel's melancholy "The Sound of Silence". This demonstrates the contrast between the bird flying freely in the air and Chiara sitting bored on the ground counting her fingers. This is also an example of non-digetec sound, because the characters on screen cannot hear it
In the example showing "simultaneity” we provided an example of direct sound. The sound was not altered, there was no post synchronization dubbing and no non-diegetic sound. All of the sounds such as the quiet whispering from inside the classroom, and the loud commotion of the courtyard at lunch were left with the original sounds and not edited in.
In the example showing “leitmotif” we provided an example of post synchronization dubbing. In the scene of Chiara’s lizard laying in its cage, we added the sound of crickets over it to indicate the quiet thoughts of the lizard. In the portion of the video where I am punching and kicking the Trojan, we recorded the sound of us hitting metal railings to make it sound like I was actually hitting the Trojan statue. After we originally finished filming the video, we realized that there was no much noise coming from me hitting the statue, which is why we edited the noise of us hitting the metal poles in to emphasize the sound the sound that was being produced

  1. I really liked the contrast on the determined bird flying in comparison to your subject in her feelings. The choice of music really shows the difference in feelings. I also liked the parallelism shown, the song matched the silly personalities of the two subjects in the hoodie.

  2. I really liked the comparison you made for symbolism with all of the different flags of different countries and then showing the map of the world. It was very creative. Then with the music of the star spangled banner when showing the flags, ending with the American flag, that was also very creative. Also, the sound bridge used to connect the two clips, linking the two ideas together, was very good.
